Shirley MacLaine, 91, Spotted in Rare Malibu Outing at Nobu
Shirley MacLaine, 91, Makes Rare Public Appearance

Hollywood icon Shirley MacLaine made a welcome and uncommon public appearance this week, stepping out for a relaxed lunch at the celebrity hotspot Nobu in Malibu.

A Rare Sight of a Private Star

The 91-year-old actress, a famously private figure in recent years, was photographed arriving at the oceanfront restaurant looking in good spirits as she soaked up the California sunshine. MacLaine, who celebrated her birthday in April, was accompanied by an aide for the midday outing.

Keeping her look comfortably understated, the Oscar winner wore a t-shirt from 'Bode's General Store' paired with khakis. This sighting comes just a few months after she was last seen at another of her local favourites, Kristy's Village Cafe, also in Malibu.

Secrets to a Long and Legendary Career

MacLaine has spoken candidly about the habits she believes contribute to her remarkable longevity and health. She credits decades of dance training, which began when she was just three years old and continued until she was about 67.

"I started my dance training at age three and stopped at about 67," she told People. "It taught me discipline, loving music, working with people and dealing with pain."

In recent interviews, the veteran star—older sister of Warren Beatty—has expressed profound gratitude for her health, friendships, and her ability to continue working well into her nineties. She has no intention of slowing down completely, revealing in 2024 that she planned to spend her 90th birthday on a film set in Atlantic City.

An Enduring Hollywood Legacy

Shirley MacLaine's astounding screen career began in 1955 with a lead role in Alfred Hitchcock's The Trouble With Harry, after already finding success on Broadway. Her prolific career includes classics like The Apartment (1960) and Sweet Charity (1969).

It was in the 1980s that she won her sole Academy Award for Best Actress for the beloved film Terms of Endearment (1983), which also won Oscars for Best Picture and Best Supporting Actor for Jack Nicholson.

Her work ethic has kept her active for nearly seven decades. She still averages about one film or TV role per year, with recent appearances in Only Murders In The Building (2022) and American Dreamers (2025). While she notes the glamour of Hollywood has changed, her passion for her craft remains undimmed.
