The latest episode of BBC crime drama Shetland has taken a dramatic turn as Detective Inspector Alison 'Tosh' McIntosh uncovers a web of corruption involving her colleague Sergeant Billy McCabe. The revelation comes as part of the investigation into the murder of Eadie Tulloch, a former social worker found dead in her garden.
During the episode aired on 3rd December, Tosh confronts Billy after discovering bank statements showing a £10,000 payment from Robert Tulloch, Eadie's husband and Billy's former sergeant. Billy initially claimed it was a loan for a house purchase, but later admitted the money was a payoff for concealing a heroin shipment found after the death of Robert's son, Craig, at sea.
Billy confessed that he withheld evidence of the drugs from the police report at Robert's request, believing he was helping a grieving friend. However, Tosh now suspects Robert may have sold the heroin, explaining his unexplained wealth. Billy also revealed that Robert had threatened a local criminal, Ray Powell, into confessing to a robbery he did not commit, by threatening to have his son taken into care.
The episode leaves Billy's future on the force in serious doubt, with potential charges including corruption, tampering with evidence, and perverting the course of justice. His relationships with Tosh and colleague Sandy are also likely to be damaged beyond repair.
Meanwhile, another storyline develops between Detective Inspector Calder and Ed Tulloch, Eadie and Robert's son, hinting at a possible romantic connection despite Calder's recent reunion with an old flame, Cal.
