Sean Bean's portrayal of the Sheriff of Nottingham in MGM+'s new Robin Hood series has captivated audiences following its premiere. The Game of Thrones and Lord of the Rings star takes on the iconic antagonist in a reimagined tale that promises historical authenticity and psychological depth.
The first image from the series shows Bean's Sheriff taking the hand of Connie Nielsen's Eleanor of Aquitaine in a banquet hall, hinting at the tense rivalries and power struggles at the heart of the show. Created by showrunner John Glenn and producer/director Jonathan English, the 10-episode series focuses on the relationship between Robin and Marian, played by screen newcomer Jack Patten and former Hollyoaks star Lauren McQueen.
Bean's Sheriff is described as a statesman, strategist, and builder of Nottingham who rules with an iron hand, driven by a belief that Norman law must be preserved. The cast also includes Lydia Peckham, Steven Waddington, Marcus Fraser, Angus Castle-Doughty, and Henry Rowley.
The series is one of two new Robin Hood projects, with Jodie Comer and Hugh Jackman starring in the film The Death of Robin Hood, directed by Michael Sarnoski. No exact release date has been announced for the MGM+ series, but it is expected to air later this year.
