Rylan Clark issued a stern warning to a listener after they left a “charming” message criticising his BBC Radio 2 colleague Sally Boazman. The 37-year-old presenter, who has hosted the station’s Saturday afternoon slot since 2019, defended Sally during his latest show, revealing he had received the complaint via the travel line.
Rylan's On-Air Warning to Listener
During the broadcast, Rylan addressed the incident directly: “You played me a very lovely message earlier from someone who had called up on the travel line…” Sally replied: “Oh yes, it was charming.” When asked if the caller left their details, she added: “No, because people who leave those kind of messages don’t leave their name.”
Rylan then issued a warning: “I’m just going to say this now. I am the only person who is allowed to take the mick out of Sally. I am the only person that is allowed to talk to Sally like that, because she knows it is in jest. If you think you can call that travel line and speak to Sally like I have just heard you speak to her. A woman of her expertise, a woman of her age, a woman of her knowledge at what she does, I’ve got your number, and I’m telling you now, I will call you back personally on air, and believe me, it won’t go down well for you sir. So to the lovely gentleman who decided to call Sally with a barrage of abuse, we’ve got your number and I will find you.”
Rylan's Protective Stance
Rylan explained he is “very protective” of his on-air colleagues, adding: “I’m up for a joke, you know me, but that was nasty.” Sally responded that she often likes to answer nasty messages and feels “very safe around you.” Rylan joked: “When’s it’s not a nasty message for me, I will go them. I’ll fight for you Sal, I’ll fight for you. I’ll scalp them.”
Career Background
Rylan, who rose to fame on The X Factor before entering the Celebrity Big Brother House weeks after his elimination, says he used to read negative comments online but concluded that by responding, he was giving critics “what they wanted.” After leaving Big Brother, his career blossomed, with appearances on shows such as Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two, This Morning, and The One Show. His travel series Rob and Rylan's Grand Tour with close friend Rob Rinder won a BAFTA in 2025.
