Ryan Coogler's X-Files Reboot Officially Greenlit with Danielle Deadwyler as Lead

Ryan Coogler's highly anticipated reboot of The X-Files has received the official green light, with actress Danielle Deadwyler confirmed as the first co-lead. The project, which has been in development for some time, is set to revive the iconic paranormal drama series for a new generation.

Details of the Reboot and Casting

The reboot will be produced for the streaming platform Hulu, with Coogler writing and directing the pilot episode. According to the official description, the series will follow two highly decorated but vastly different FBI agents who form an unlikely bond when assigned to a long-shuttered division devoted to cases involving unexplained phenomena.

Danielle Deadwyler, known for her roles in films such as Till, Carry-On, and The Piano Lesson, will play one of the lead roles. Her television credits include Station Eleven and an upcoming season of Euphoria. The casting of the other lead actor remains to be announced.

Involvement of Original Stars and Creators

While appearances by original stars like David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson have not been confirmed, Coogler has revealed that he has spoken with Anderson about the project. In a statement, he said, "She's incredible and fingers crossed there. We're going to try to make something really great, bro, and make something for the real X-Files fans and maybe find some new ones."

Anderson previously expressed support for Coogler's vision, noting in an interview last year that she told him, "If anyone were to do it, I think you are the perfect person and best of luck, call me." She added that she might consider involvement if the timing feels right.

Chris Carter, the original showrunner of The X-Files, will serve as an executive producer on the reboot, ensuring continuity with the series' legacy.

Background and Coogler's Recent Achievements

The X-Files originally aired from 1993 to 2002, with a revival in 2016 for two additional seasons. At its peak, the show attracted 27 million viewers in the United States and spawned two feature films. Coogler, the filmmaker behind Black Panther and Sinners, has long expressed his admiration for the series, aiming to create new episodes that are "really fucking scary."

Recently, Coogler made history by becoming the first Black winner of the Bafta for best original screenplay for his vampire thriller Sinners. The film is also nominated for a record 16 Oscars at the upcoming ceremony, highlighting his growing influence in the industry.

This reboot marks a significant step in bringing classic science fiction television back to the forefront, with Coogler's creative vision poised to attract both longtime fans and new audiences.
