Robson Green's BBC Drama The Northumbria Mysteries Airs Soon

Robson Green is set to appear in the BBC's upcoming drama, The Northumbria Mysteries, where he plays former convict Joe Ruby, described as a 'Jack-of-all-trades'. The actor, best known for his role as DI Geordie Keating in ITV's Grantchester, returns to crime-solving in this new series, this time set in the present day.

Plot and Character Details

The series follows Joe, whose life has been shaped by lost chances, errors, and remorse, while his partner, Oxford-educated DI Rose O'Connell, played by Liz White, is his complete opposite. A synopsis for the programme states: "In a classic odd-couple pairing, Joe and Rose combine their talents as they frustrate, confound, and ultimately surprise one another while unravelling a series of compelling crime mysteries."

Robson Green's Announcement and Fan Reaction

The detective series is scheduled to broadcast later this month. Robson shared an initial look at himself in role on Instagram, posting a photograph with his co-star Liz. Speaking previously to BBC News about filming the series, Robson praised working in his native region, stating: "Northumberland, the landscape in itself, is a principal character." He continued: "Set against this amazing backdrop, you have this really unusual, likeable and oddball pairing, who slowly realise they have a connection. They're trying to work out what that connection is and then later on through the series, what to do with that connection."

The series is set to air Friday 23 October on BBC One at 2pm.
