ITV has officially announced the highly-anticipated return of its hit drama Red Eye, with the second series set to launch on New Year's Day.
The show, which became one of the broadcaster's top ten dramas of 2024, will see Jing Lusi reprise her role as DS Hana Li, alongside new guest star Martin Compston from Line of Duty.
A Star-Studded Cast Returns
Joining Lusi and Compston are returning cast members Lesley Sharp as Head of MI5 Madeline Delaney and Jemma Moore as journalist Jess Li.
Compston takes on the pivotal role of Clay Brody, the Head of Embassy Security and a former colleague of Hana Li who once betrayed her.
The High-Stakes Plot Unfolds
The new season's plot shifts from the first series, which followed DC Hana Li escorting an accused doctor to Beijing.
This time, the action centres on the US Embassy in London during a celebration for a newly appointed US Ambassador.
The festivities are shattered when a threat is made to blow a British plane out of the sky if anyone leaves, triggering an immediate lockdown that traps guests and staff inside.
As the embassy is sealed, a series of murders begins, placing DS Hana Li in a political and jurisdictional nightmare.
She is compelled to partner with the untrustworthy Clay Brody to investigate, as the situation becomes intensely personal: the targeted plane is a government jet carrying their superior, Madeline Delaney.
With a killer on the loose inside the embassy, Hana and Brody must race against time to uncover the mastermind behind the plot before it's too late for the hostages and the passengers on the plane.
A Major Hit for ITV
The confirmation of a second series will be welcome news for fans. The first season was a major success, attracting over eight million viewers on television and an impressive 29.3 million streams on ITVX.
The new series will comprise six episodes, produced by the Wales-based independent company Bad Wolf.
The intense thriller is crafted and written by Peter A Dowling, promising his signature twists and turns.
Red Eye returns to ITV1 and STV on New Year’s Day and will be available to stream on ITVX and STV Player.
