Peter Andre's Romantic Scenes Chat with NHS Doctor Wife Emily
Peter Andre on filming romantic scenes with wife Emily

Singer and actor Peter Andre has opened up about the important conversations he had with his wife, Emily, before filming romantic scenes for his new detective drama, The Sunshine Murders. The 52-year-old star, who plays criminal pathologist George Constantinou, admitted he sought his wife's approval for the will-they-won't-they storyline.

Navigating On-Screen Romance

During a recent press event at the Constantinou Bros Asimina Suites Hotel in Cyprus, where the series was filmed, Andre explained his approach to the sensitive topic. "I've had this discussion with my wife before," the Mysterious Girl hitmaker revealed. "I've said what would happen in a situation like that - I've not been in that situation before."

Andre was quick to reassure that the family-friendly nature of the Channel 5 show meant boundaries were always respected. "The thing about this that's amazing is because it's a family programme, even though it's a murder mystery, it would never cross the line," he stated. "So even if there's a romance, you might know there's a romance, but you won't 'see' it. You'll always get the feeling of 'maybe one day.'"

Family Support and Professional Advice

Interestingly, Emily Andre, a 36-year-old NHS doctor, became more than just a supportive wife - she also served as an unofficial consultant for Peter's role as a pathologist. "I said to her, 'is this what a pathologist would say?' and she goes yeah but not in that accent!" Peter shared, referring to the Cypriot twang he adopted for his character George Constantinou.

The couple, who tied the knot in 2015, are parents to Amelia, 11, Theo, eight, and Arabella, 20 months. Peter also brought his older children from his previous marriage to Katie Price - Junior, 20, and Princess, 18 - along with Junior's girlfriend Jasmine Orr, 24, to Cyprus for the press launch.

They enjoyed a luxury stay at the adults-only Constantinou Bros Asimina Suites Hotel, which features four restaurants, a boutique spa, gym, tennis court, and suites with private pools, before reuniting with the rest of their family at another Cypriot resort.

Co-Star Insights and Location Appeal

Peter's co-star, Dora Chrysikou, who plays Detective Helen Moustakas, shared her perspective on filming romantic storylines. "Having love scenes in the theatre or in films - something that can happen," she acknowledged during the Q&A. "The turning point is that when you have a partner that doesn't know about the profession, it is always hard if they see you with another man, or with another woman on screen."

The choice of Cyprus as the primary filming location proved crucial to the show's appeal. Actress Emily Corcoran, who plays Shirley Rangi, explained: "Location is very important in television and in particular in cozy crime. They almost become like a character in the TV show itself, and we needed to find a location that gave that really great level of escapism."

Beyond the visual appeal, practical considerations also influenced the decision. Cyprus offers a more generous tax rebate for film and television productions compared to the UK, making it an economically sensible choice for the production budget.

Aristos Diomedous, General Manager of Constantinou Bros Hotels, expressed pride in hosting the production: "It was an honour to welcome the production of The Sunshine Murders to our hotel. Partnerships like this not only showcase this superb property but also highlight Cyprus as a world-class filming and holiday destination."

For Peter Andre, this role marks a significant return to acting after decades focusing on his music career. "I did acting as a kid and then the music took off and I just ran with it," he reflected. "I always said I'd get back to the acting in my 40s and now I've done my first ever TV series." His decision to use a Greek accent instead of his native Australian accent during auditions ultimately won over the producers.

The Sunshine Murders is now available to watch on Channel 5's website, offering viewers a taste of Cypriot beauty intertwined with cozy crime mystery.
