Strictly Come Dancing finalist Amber Davies has made a startling revelation just days before the grand finale, disclosing that she refused to perform a specific dance move because it was "far too dangerous".
The Risky Move That Was Scrapped
The 29-year-old West End performer, who entered the BBC competition as a last-minute replacement for Dani Dyer, explained the incident occurred during rehearsals for her Week Seven Salsa. Her professional partner, Nikita Kuzmin, proposed an ambitious opening: Amber would start the routine standing on his shoulders before dropping directly into the splits.
"Nikita said right, I’ve got an idea. You’re going to start the number by standing on my shoulders and the first thing you’re going to do is drop straight into the splits from there," Amber recounted. "I said immediately, no, like absolutely not happening."
Practice Made Perfect, But Safety Prevailed
Despite her initial refusal, the pair did attempt the complex lift in practice sessions over several days. Nikita confirmed, "I mean you said it after three days, because we did do some practice." Amber elaborated that her willingness to try anything meant they eventually succeeded in executing the move. However, the decision was ultimately made to cut it from their final performance purely on safety grounds.
"We did succeed it but we cut it because it was far too dangerous," Amber stated. "But that’s what I think Nikita likes, is that I’ll go ‘yeah’. I’m just a yes girl!"
Emotional Build-Up to the Glitterball Final
The disclosure comes as Amber prepares to battle for the Glitterball Trophy against fellow finalists, former Lioness Karen Carney and YouTuber George Clarke. The theatre star, who won Love Island in 2017, has admitted to struggling with her emotions as the series concludes.
She became tearful during a recent appearance, requiring Nikita to fetch tissues, as she reflected on her journey ending. "My alarm went off this morning and I jumped out of bed, because I just thought this was the last Tuesday," she shared. "The Strictly bubble is bursting, it came into my life with a vengeance and now it feels like it's leaving just as quickly."
Despite a successful theatre career, including roles in 9 to 5: The Musical and The Great Gatsby, Amber insists the training for Strictly has been uniquely challenging. She has also faced significant online criticism, which she has characterised as bullying.
Following the semi-final, she took to social media to thank fans for an "outpouring of love" and praise her competitors. In a video message, she said, "In the close to a decade I've been in the public eye, I've never experienced an outpouring of love the way I have in the last 48 hours." She added, "I think I've needed to do Strictly to realise that there is so much kindness in this world."
As the final approaches on Saturday 17th December 2025, Amber vows to cherish her last moments in the ballroom and is rooting for her fellow finalists. "I'm going to literally enjoy every single second of this week," she affirmed.
