Netflix has debuted a brand new trailer for the upcoming Peaky Blinders film today, February 19, which introduces a mysterious new character portrayed by Rebecca Ferguson. The film, titled Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, is set to be released in cinemas and on Netflix in just a few weeks, with cinematic showings starting March 6 and streaming availability from March 20.
Plot and Setting Details
The story is set in 1940, amidst the backdrop of World War Two. It follows Tommy Shelby, played by Cillian Murphy, as he emerges from his self-imposed exile to confront his illegitimate son, Duke, portrayed by Barry Keoghan. Duke has become the new leader of the Peaky Blinders gang, with Ada Shelby, played by Sophie Rundle, noting in the new clip that he is running the gang "like it’s 1919 all over again."
Introduction of Kaulo
A new character named Kaulo, played by Rebecca Ferguson, is introduced in the trailer. Her storyline has been kept a closely guarded secret, but it is revealed that she is an acquaintance of Tommy's. At the start of the trailer, she whispers to Tommy, "you live in a house haunted by ghosts, of people who died because of you." She then tells him, "You abandoned your kingdom. And you abandoned your son."
Fan Reactions and Excitement
Fans have since flocked to the comments section to offer up their first thoughts on the new footage. One fan penned, "It's going to be an amazing experience! I can't wait!" Another Peaky Blinders fan added, "Bruh, March 20 is my birthday. If this is not the best birthday gift, IDK what is." A third remarked, "Barry Keoghan and Cillian Murphy, both of them look so badass, I am hyped for this one."
Insights from Cillian Murphy
Discussing the film ahead of its release in March this year, star Cillian Murphy told Netflix's Tudum that his character Tommy is at a point where he is "as broken as he has been" when audiences meet him. He continued, "He’s just medicating and living in this purgatory that he’s created for himself in this big old house. He’s in this liminal space, not really living, he’s not really dead. He’s ignoring the world, he’s ignoring his family."
The film promises to deliver a gripping narrative with intense performances, building anticipation among fans worldwide as the release dates approach.
