Vernon Kay stepped in to stop an interview with comedian Katherine Ryan on The One Show after her conversation turned to The Celebrity Traitors, as the presenters moved to avoid giving away spoilers.
Ryan appeared on the BBC programme on October 21 to promote her new memoir, Firstborn Daughter, and discussed her friendship with some of the celebrity contestants. But presenters Alex Jones and Vernon Kay were quick to halt further discussion of the BBC reality show.
Presenters Explain Spoiler Concerns
Vernon explained: "We can't talk about Traitors because we end up tripping ourselves up and giving out spoilers."
Katherine appeared surprised and questioned how Vernon knew any spoilers. He admitted he did not have any, before turning towards the camera and theatrically shaking his head, suggesting he might know more than he was letting on.
Ryan Discusses James Acaster
Earlier in the conversation, Katherine had revealed the nickname she uses for fellow comedian James Acaster, who has become a social media favourite during his appearance on The Celebrity Traitors.
"I mention several participants of Celebrity Traitors in the book," she said. "It's interesting to be friends with so many, I love the show and it's that wonderful mix where you can watch it with your children, it brings the family together."
She described her daughter Violet as an "early spotter of James Acaster as a crush" after meeting him as a young child.
"I've noticed the nation are really pining for him in the comments and Violet from three years old, four years old, she met James and she said 'I'm going to marry him one day'," Katherine explained. She revealed that she has saved James' number in her phone as "Violet's boyfriend" ever since.
"Which is inappropriate but you know," she joked, before adding: "He's doing so well, they're all doing well."
Traitors Cliffhanger
James is reluctantly playing as a Traitor after being recruited by Richard E. Grant and Maya Jama early in the competition. Fans have been sharing compilation clips of the comedian online and declaring the 41-year-old a heartthrob.
The next episode follows a dramatic cliffhanger in which Maya and James attempted to murder in plain sight. Their task was to make someone yawn so they could deliver the phrase 'Am I boring you?' to seal their victim's fate.
Jerry Hall and Ross Kemp were the only remaining Faithfuls with them at the end of the previous episode. Viewers will find out whether the Traitors succeeded on October 22 at 8pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
The One Show airs every weeknight from 7pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
