The Night Agent Star Curtis Lum on Cisco's Return and Season 3's Tragic Deaths

In an exclusive interview, The Night Agent actor Curtis Lum has opened up about his character's surprise return in the hit Netflix series' third season, as well as the shocking deaths that have left fans reeling. Lum, who plays Cisco Jenkins, confirmed that fan reaction played a significant role in his character's reappearance after a dramatic exit in season one.

Fans Heard 'Loud and Clear'

Curtis Lum stated unequivocally that the passionate response from viewers was instrumental in Cisco Jenkins' return. "My character Cisco left season one in quite a dramatic way," Lum explained. "It was very heartwarming to see such an overwhelming reaction and support. Throughout the second season I kept in touch with the team, and it was always supposed to happen. I think the fans were heard loud and clear."

The actor elaborated on the importance of Cisco's relationship with protagonist Peter Sutherland, played by Gabriel Basso. "I think it was just nice for Peter's character to have someone that represented him in a specific time in his life," Lum said. "We got to see that whole other side of Peter and what that dynamic looked like."

Recreating the Brotherly Bond

Lum revealed fascinating details about how he and Basso developed their on-screen chemistry with minimal preparation time. "Gabe and I are great friends," he shared. "In season one, we had maybe about five minutes before we started shooting where we actually met in the hair and makeup trailer. We knew we had five minutes to create this kind of brotherly bond and dynamic, so we literally took a step outside and it was like speed dating but on crack."

The actor praised their working relationship, noting: "We really get to the nitty gritty of the work and we take what we do very seriously. Thankfully there were a lot of things we connected on, and we were able to use that to make the friendship as believable as possible."

Season 3's Heartbreaking Losses

The third season of The Night Agent delivered several emotional blows to viewers, most notably the death of Peter's handler, Catherine Weaver, portrayed by Amanda Warren. The character was killed during an explosion orchestrated by villain Jacob Monroe, played by Louis Herthum.

Lum addressed the impact of these narrative choices: "In this world that has been created, no one is safe. Certainly in Catherine's case, she had a fantastic second season. I absolutely loved her character, and at least she got an epic death - that's a hell of a way to go out."

The actor drew from his own experience of having a dramatic exit in season one, adding: "As someone that can speak from experience of going out in a fun, somewhat explosive way, she took the cake with her exit. That's how you have got to look at it - we are all just tools or instruments bringing this symphony alive."

A Touching Real-Life Connection

Perhaps the most poignant revelation concerns the storyline of Jacob Monroe, whose battle with cancer in the series mirrored actor Louis Herthum's real-life struggle with terminal prostate cancer. Lum shared this moving behind-the-scenes detail: "In Jacob's case it's a very heartwarming story. In real life, Louis was going through a terminal illness, and by the grace of Shawn Ryan and the team, rather than just writing him off, they actually put that into the storyline."

He continued: "They allowed him to bring a lot of the real life experiences into the character so they could mend the two together in a very organic way. When you hear about stories like that, it is very nice to know that the industry cares and is able to be flexible and creative around storytelling."

Future Flashbacks and New Projects

When asked about potential future appearances, Lum expressed enthusiasm for returning to The Night Agent universe. "I would absolutely return in another flashback if it made sense for the storyline," he confirmed. "We had so much fun creating that bond between two best friends. You realize after season one there's still so much room to play and so much story to tell."

The actor reflected on his character's lasting impact: "I think Cisco still holds a special place in Peter's heart. I'd like to think I was one of the first in his adult life that jump-kicks him into this colder, more calculated, less naïve version of himself."

Looking ahead, Lum revealed he will next appear in the new AMC series The Audacity, created by Succession's Jonathan Glatzer, in April 2026. Later in the year, he will star in the action thriller film Karoshi alongside Cynthia Erivo and Teo Yoo.

The Night Agent season 3 is currently streaming on Netflix, continuing the epic spy thriller that has captivated audiences with its complex characters, unexpected twists, and emotional depth.
