ITV has released the first images from its highly anticipated new four-part drama, The Lady, which dramatises the shocking true story of Sarah Ferguson's former dresser, Jane Andrews.
From Palace Dresser to Murder Conviction
The series will trace the remarkable and ultimately tragic journey of Jane Andrews. A young woman from Grimsby, she famously answered an advertisement in the magazine The Lady and landed the coveted role of dresser to the Duchess of York at Buckingham Palace.
For nine years, Andrews moved within the highest echelons of British society, securing a place in the Duchess's office. However, her world collapsed when she lost the prestigious position, setting her on a path to disaster.
A Star-Studded Cast for a Gripping Tale
The drama features an impressive ensemble cast. Mia McKenna-Bruce, the BAFTA-winning star of Netflix's Agatha Christie's Seven Dials, takes on the central role of Jane Andrews.
She is joined by Natalie Dormer (Game of Thrones), who will portray the former Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson. Ed Speleers (Outlander) plays Thomas Cressman, the charismatic businessman Andrews fell in love with and was later convicted of murdering in 2001.
The supporting cast includes renowned actors such as Philip Glenister, Claire Skinner (Outnumbered), and Laura Aikman (Gavin and Stacey).
A Story of Ambition, Class, and Tragedy
Following her fall from royal grace, Andrews met and fell deeply in love with Thomas Cressman. The series will explore how this romance, on which she had pinned all her hopes, developed fatal cracks leading to catastrophic consequences.
ITV states that the drama "examines ambition, class and identity against the backdrop of the British establishment". It is produced by Left Bank Pictures, the acclaimed team behind The Crown and Quiz.
Sian McWilliams, Creative Director at Left Bank, praised the "bold and complex storytelling" in Debbie Horsfield's scripts, which pose the question: "who is the real Jane Andrews?"
While an official release date is pending, The Lady is expected to premiere on ITV in early 2026.
