Early reactions to Netflix's new thriller series Man on Fire have been mixed, with some viewers already declaring it superior to The Night Agent. All seven episodes were released on April 30.
The series, based on A.J. Quinnell's novels, stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as John Creasy, a former Special Forces mercenary battling PTSD who seeks redemption but is drawn back into violence. The cast also includes Scoot McNairy and Bobby Cannavale.
Reviews praise Abdul-Mateen's performance but criticise the formulaic plot. IGN noted the show's 'emotional weight and physical badassery' offset its predictability, while The Guardian called some action scenes 'ludicrous' and 'hard to take seriously'. Variety described it as 'good enough' but not exceptional.
One early viewer wrote online: 'Forget The Night Agent Netflix, you need to be all in on this show here.' The series has not yet registered a Rotten Tomatoes score due to few reviews.
