Netflix's Monster Season 4 to Focus on Lizzie Borden

Netflix's true crime anthology series Monster is reportedly planning a fourth season centred on the infamous Lizzie Borden case, with filming expected to begin in autumn 2025. The news comes as the third season, focusing on Ed Gein and starring Charlie Hunnam, is set to premiere later this year.

According to Variety, the fourth season would explore the 1892 axe murders of Andrew and Abby Borden, for which Lizzie Borden was tried and acquitted. The case remains one of America's most notorious unsolved crimes, with no other suspects ever charged. Netflix has not officially renewed the series, and RadioTimes.com has approached the streaming service for comment.

If confirmed, the Lizzie Borden season would mark a shift to older historical cases for creator Ryan Murphy, following seasons on Jeffrey Dahmer (1990s), the Menendez brothers (1989), and Ed Gein (1950s). The Borden case offers significant creative freedom due to lack of concrete evidence and ongoing theories about the murders.

The Borden story has been adapted multiple times, including the 2014 TV film Lizzie Borden Took an Axe starring Christina Ricci, and the 2018 film Lizzie with Chloë Sevigny and Kristen Stewart. Murphy's interpretation remains unknown, as does casting and an official renewal announcement.
