In a revelation that has stunned Harry Potter fans worldwide, acclaimed actress Miriam Margolyes has confessed she has never watched the magical film series that introduced her to millions as Professor Pomona Sprout.
The 82-year-old star, who appeared in both Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, made the surprising admission during a recent interview, explaining that watching herself on screen is an experience she deliberately avoids.
'I Find It Uncomfortable Watching Myself'
Margolyes was remarkably candid about her avoidance of the Potter films, telling BBC's Newsnight: "I've never seen any of the Harry Potter films. I don't watch myself on screen, generally. I find it uncomfortable watching myself."
The actress, known for her straightforward personality and sharp wit, acknowledged the irony of her situation, given the global phenomenon the film series became and its enduring popularity years after the final installment.
A Beloved Character Despite Her Avoidance
Despite never seeing her own performance, Margolyes remains one of the most beloved supporting characters in the Wizarding World. As Head of Hufflepuff House and Herbology teacher at Hogwarts, her portrayal of the kind-hearted Professor Sprout charmed audiences worldwide.
Her memorable scenes included leading the defence of Hogwarts during the Battle of Hogwarts, where she unleashed the dangerous Mandrakes against Death Eaters, and teaching students how to handle the screaming plants.
Not Alone in Hollywood
Margolyes isn't the first actor to avoid watching their own work. Many performers have expressed similar discomfort, though few have starred in such culturally significant films without seeing the final product.
The Harry Potter film series, which ran from 2001 to 2011, became one of the highest-grossing franchises in cinema history, grossing over $7.7 billion worldwide and creating lifelong careers for many of its cast members.
Despite her personal viewing habits, Margolyes continues to be celebrated for her contribution to the magical universe, even if she'll never see it for herself.
