Kym Marsh Reveals TV Bosses Had to 'Tone Down' Raunchiest Role in The Imposter

Actress Kym Marsh has admitted that television executives had to cut or tone down some of the sex scenes in her latest drama, Channel 5's The Imposter, to make it suitable for broadcast. The 49-year-old former Coronation Street star described the role as her raunchiest to date, playing a 'villainous heartbreaker' in the four-part series set in an Australian seaside hotel.

Speaking about the production, Marsh revealed that episode two was particularly explicit, featuring a flashback to London where her character meets her Australian lover. 'There was quite a lot of stuff that I believe they’ve had to tone down,' she said, adding that the executive producer told her she performed the scenes 'so convincingly'.

Marsh, who shot to fame as part of pop group Hear'Say in 2000, admitted to feeling nervous about filming the intimate moments but praised the crew and cast for making her feel safe. 'We had an intimacy co-ordinator on set,' she noted. 'I’m 49 years old, I’m not as body confident as I used to be... and I’m on screen, kind of barely dressed.'

The actress flew to Australia alone for six weeks to film the drama, leaving her family behind. She said the production team quickly put her at ease, making her feel as though she had known them forever. Marsh stars alongside Neighbours legend Jackie Woodburne and TV personality Dannii Minogue.

Marsh's son David, aged 30, has expressed a desire to watch the drama, but she has warned him about the explicit content. She told him she will have to skip past those scenes and just fill him in. The Imposter explores sibling rivalry with 'deadly consequences' and airs on Channel 5.
