Former Emmerdale star Kelvin Fletcher and his wife Liz are back on screens for a new series of 'Fletchers' Family Farm', but they are still recovering from a devastating fire at their Peak District farmhouse. The blaze tore through the roof of their home, causing severe smoke damage and leaving the property uninhabitable for the family of six.
Kelvin, Liz and their four children—Marnie, Milo and twins Mateusz and Maximus—were on a rare family holiday when they received the call. 'Our first reaction was thank god we weren't here,' Liz recalled. Kelvin added, 'It was the stuff of nightmares. The fire brigade was called. It was surreal. We were in another country, there was nothing we could do.'
Despite the setback, the Fletchers remain positive. 'We just have to clean up and tidy up,' Kelvin said optimistically. Liz lightened the mood with a joke: 'One thing I love is a rebound. My ironing board's gone. Luckily, I never did any ironing.'
The new series also captures happier moments, including the arrival of a breeding bull named Crowther, a tribute to Kelvin's late best mate Steven Crowther. 'Every time I look at Crowther, I think of my mate. Some of my best memories were with him by my side,' Kelvin revealed. The family is also expanding into crop farming, with plans to grow their own oats.
'Fletchers' Family Farm' returns to ITV on Sunday, October 19 at 11am.
