Coronation Street's Farrel Hegarty Breaks Silence on Upcoming Exit with Five-Word Bombshell

Coronation Street star Farrel Hegarty, who plays Lou Michaelis, has addressed her looming exit from the ITV soap, confirming that her departure was always planned. The actress, who joined the show less than a year ago, will bow out this summer alongside onscreen husband Mick Michaelis, played by Joe Layton.

Speaking to The Mirror and other press, Hegarty teased what lies ahead for her character, stating: "It's all about to implode." She explained that she knew from the start that her role would be short-term, saying she was drawn to the character because "she's the sort of person who's never had it easy."

Hegarty described Lou as a "force and irrational" character who is "fun to play" because of her unpredictability. She admitted that she wouldn't get along with her alter ego in real life, noting: "She's not a girl next door vibe. I wouldn't want to be best mates with her."

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
