Netflix has confirmed that Black Doves, the critically acclaimed spy thriller, will return for a second season. The series, which earned Keira Knightley a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a TV Drama, was commissioned for a second run before its 2024 premiere.
The first season followed spy Helen (Knightley) as her secret identity was threatened after the murder of her forbidden lover. Her handler Reed (Sarah Lancashire) enlisted Helen's old friend Sam (Ben Whishaw) to protect her. The finale revealed that Reed's daughter had been working as the nanny to Helen's children.
Season two will see Helen's husband Wallace (Andrew Buchan) prepare to become Prime Minister. Netflix's synopsis states: "As they search for answers, loyalties are weaponised, trust is shattered, and the fight to protect the people they love could cost everything." Creator Joe Barton said: "Downing Street will never be the same."
Production began in London around November 2025, with filming expected to conclude in mid-February 2026 after a 20-week shoot. No official release date has been confirmed, but it is anticipated before the end of 2026.
Returning cast members include Knightley, Lancashire, Whishaw, and Buchan. New additions include Ambika Mod as Laila, a Black Doves agent; Sam Riley as Patrick; Babou Ceesay as Mr Conteh; Sylvia Hoeks as Katia Chernov; Neve Campbell as Cecile Mason; Goran Kostic as Alexi Chernov; and Samuel Barnett as Jerry.
