Kate Hudson surprised onlookers at the 28th Costume Designers Guild Awards on February 12 by wearing a bold purple silk gown, a departure from her usual monochromatic or butter-yellow ensembles. The 46-year-old actress chose a design from Valentino's spring/summer 2026 'Fireflies' collection by Alessandro Michele.
The gown featured a plunging halter neckline with ruched tie detailing, a figure-hugging silhouette, and a softly draped skirt. Hudson accessorised with a diamond choker necklace and dainty drop earrings, while her hair was styled straight and her makeup included shimmery eyes, rosy cheeks, and a plum lip.
During the ceremony, Hudson received the Spotlight Award for her role in the film 'Song Sung Blue', which tells the true story of Mike and Claire Sardina, a couple who performed as a Neil Diamond tribute band in the 1980s. Hudson stars alongside Hugh Jackman, with the film directed by Craig Brewer.
Speaking at the film's London premiere, Hudson recalled recording sessions with Jackman: 'Craig wanted to start in the recording studio... it's very quiet, and you're quite vulnerable... you make a lot of mistakes and so it was great to break the ice that way.' She added that Brewer gave her 'great freedom for my harmonies.'
Hudson has recently favoured sensual, silky looks, including a gray silk blouse and black leather maxi skirt at a dinner party with Italian jewellery brand Garatti.
