Netflix's animated hit K-Pop Demon Hunters is returning to theatres over Halloween weekend, from October 31 to November 2, with an expanded release that includes AMC screens for the first time. The film, which originally played in Regal and Cinemark cinemas in August, will now screen in approximately 400 AMC locations globally, including in the UK, Ireland, Korea, Spain, Germany, the Netherlands, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Australia, and New Zealand.
The collaboration marks a thaw in relations between Netflix and AMC, which have previously been at odds over theatrical windowing. An AMC spokesperson said: 'Netflix, the world's largest streaming service, and AMC Entertainment, the world's largest theatre chain, have jointly decided to work together. This new cooperation will start this Halloween weekend.'
K-Pop Demon Hunters is the most-watched movie in Netflix history, with over 541.8 million global viewing hours. Produced by Sony Animation, the film follows Rumi, Mira, and Zoey—young-adult pop stars in the group Huntr/x—who secretly moonlight as demon hunters. When a powerful demon encourages a rival K-pop boy band to steal fans' souls, the trio must fight to protect their fans and their friendship.
The re-release comes during a quiet Halloween weekend at the box office, with few major new wide releases. Focus Features will debut Yorgos Lanthimos' Bugonia starring Emma Stone, and Fathom Events is re-releasing The Twilight Saga.
