Jude Law Reveals The Holiday Cottage Was a Set Built in a Field

Jude Law has shattered the illusion for fans of the Christmas classic The Holiday, revealing that the film's iconic Rosehill Cottage was not a real property but a set built in a field. The 51-year-old actor shared the behind-the-scenes secret during an interview with BBC Radio 2's Zoe Ball and comedian Kerry Godliman.

Law explained that director Nancy Meyers, described as a perfectionist, toured the English countryside but could not find the chocolate-box cottage she envisioned. Instead, she hired a field and had the cottage constructed from scratch. The interiors were filmed three months later in Los Angeles, despite the exterior scenes being shot in winter in England.

The revelation left Ball and Godliman dismayed, with Ball exclaiming, 'We don't want to hear anymore. We can't bear it.' Godliman added, 'That's very upsetting.' However, Law expressed enthusiasm for a potential sequel, telling E! News, 'I love the idea,' and adding, 'Why not?'

While Rosehill Cottage was a fabrication, much of the film was shot in the Surrey villages of Shere and Godalming. Fans can rent The Honeysuckle Cottage in Holmbury St Mary, which inspired the film's design, and has been available on Airbnb since 2021.
