BBC Breakfast presenter Jon Kay issued an on-air warning to colleague Carol Kirkwood, suggesting that an upcoming guest could cause chaos in the studio. During Tuesday's broadcast, Kay and co-host Sally Nugent were joined by Kirkwood for her regular weather update.
As Kirkwood finished the forecast, Kay advised her to finish her breakfast quickly to prevent a 'huge dog' from snatching it. 'Have you got any toast or cereal?' he asked. Kirkwood replied, 'No, but I could smell yours and it's making me really hungry.'
Kay explained, 'We've been eating ours just now, getting it out of the way because there is a huge dog on the way in a moment.' Nugent confirmed the dog's size, and Kay warned, 'You have been warned.' Nugent added, 'We've just had to hide our breakfast.'
The segment then shifted to a heartwarming story about 'hero dogs'. The presenters discussed Adam Cooke, whose four-year-old Golden Retriever, Polly, helped save his life after he went into cardiac arrest while asleep. Polly woke Adam's wife Hannah, who performed CPR before an ambulance arrived.
In a pre-recorded interview, Adam and Hannah shared their emotional experience. Adam recalled reuniting with Polly after his hospital stay: 'I'm not going to shy away from it. I cried and I think she cried too because she was like 'wow you're back home'.' Hannah added, 'I love her to bits and I think she is the best dog in the world.'
