John McEnroe's BBC salary fell below the disclosure threshold of £178,000 in the 2024/25 financial year, according to the broadcaster's latest report. The tennis legend, who has been a fixture of BBC's Wimbledon coverage since 2004, earned between £195,000 and £199,999 in the previous year, equating to roughly £14,000 per day for his commentary work during the tournament.
McEnroe's Enduring Marriage and Sex Life
McEnroe will celebrate his 30th wedding anniversary with wife Patty Smyth in 2027. The couple, who share two children, have been open about the secrets to their lasting relationship. In a 2020 interview with People, Smyth said that "keeping the sex going" was crucial to their commitment. She also emphasized the importance of maintaining a low profile, stating: "I just thought if I kept it on the down-low, I had this gut feeling that we would stay together - if I threw it out to the world, that we wouldn't - because I've seen that happen so many times."
Failed TV Show 'McEnroe'
McEnroe's attempt at hosting his own talk show on CNBC, titled 'McEnroe', was cancelled after just one season. The programme aired from July to December 2004, averaging 174,000 viewers in its opening week—a drop from the 200,000 viewers of its predecessor, 'The News with Brian Williams'. The show received scathing reviews and recorded a Nielsen rating of 0.0 on two occasions. Despite efforts to boost ratings by hiring executive producer Woody Fraser, CNBC axed the show after its final episode on December 15, 2004, replacing it with 'The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch'.
