ITV Plans Major Shake-Up for Good Morning Britain, Staff Fear Job Losses

ITV is reportedly planning a significant revamp of its breakfast show Good Morning Britain, sparking fears of job losses and a potential 'mutiny' among staff. The show, which has aired since 2014 and features presenters Susanna Reid, Richard Madeley, and Kate Garraway, may undergo changes to its studio and overall aesthetic to adopt a more hard-hitting style in line with ITV's news bulletins produced by ITN.

A source told the Daily Mail that the proposed changes aim to streamline ITV's news output across the day, potentially leading to correspondents appearing across multiple programmes rather than being assigned exclusively to Good Morning Britain or ITV News. The source added: 'Obviously any talk of major change starts panic – lots of the staff were immediately worried about the security of their jobs.'

The shake-up is believed to be driven by a desire to overtake BBC Breakfast, which regularly attracts over one million viewers each morning compared to Good Morning Britain's approximately 700,000. The plans come months after former ITV News boss Andrew Dagnell was appointed director of news and current affairs at ITV. Unions have reportedly expressed concern in a memo to staff.

The show previously saw high ratings during Piers Morgan's tenure as anchor from 2015 to 2021, but he left after controversial comments about Meghan Markle following her interview with Oprah Winfrey. Morgan has since struggled to find steady work, with his TalkTV show being wound down, though he continues to broadcast on YouTube.
