Dame Helen Mirren, Julia Donaldson and Rob Brydon are set to appear in a Christmas special of The Repair Shop, bringing treasured items to be restored by the show's experts.
Dame Helen brings a cello from the Second World War, owned by Denville Hall, a care home for entertainment industry workers. The cello belonged to theatre director Martin Landau, who fled Germany on the Kindertransport after the Nazis broke his instrument. It has not been played in over 80 years, and the care home hopes to use it for Christmas carols.
Julia Donaldson and Rob Brydon bring a toy farmhouse given to Julia by her grandmother. The farm was played with by Julia and her sister and inspired settings for her books. After restoration, it will be donated to Chestnut Tree House children's hospice.
Other repairs include a life-sized mechanical Rudolph belonging to Leicestershire Fire Service, a sledge used for 80 years by a Northern Ireland family, and a dilapidated carol book from a Sheffield tradition.
The one-hour special airs on BBC One and iPlayer this Christmas.
