The makers of Grantchester have revealed they are open to a deal with Netflix after the show's final series airs in 2027. The ITV drama, which has an audience demand 10 times the average for US shows, is currently funded by the MASTERPIECE Mystery! anthology series in America.
Writer Daisy Coulam has written an 'open ended' finale for the 11th series, leaving the door open for a potential return. Executive producer Emma Kingsman-Lloyd hinted she would be tempted to co-produce the show for Netflix if the budget is right, saying: 'Some big American shows get millions and millions per episode... On Grantchester, we stay at a level and it gets harder and harder to make at that budget level. But if Netflix are listening it would be lovely if they were to give us £10million an episode!'
Robson Green, who plays Detective Inspector Geordie Keating, encouraged fans to keep the spirit of the show alive by visiting Cambridge and its pubs. He said: 'We were told by Daisy Coulam, our writer, “Nothing really ends. Not really. The River Cam will keep flowing and swans will keep swimming. And if you look in a Cambridge pub hard enough you might see two old men, an ex-copper and a vicar having a warm pint and putting the world to rights. It is never goodbye.”'
The 11th series, announced as the last in summer, features Green alongside Rishi Nair as vicar Alphy Kottaram, solving crimes in the Cambridgeshire village. Green praised his co-stars, reflecting on the friendships formed beyond the camera.
