Georgie Tunny, 34, Named Channel Ten's New Weekend News Host
Georgie Tunny replaces Chris Bath at Channel Ten News

Channel Ten has confirmed the appointment of Georgie Tunny as the new presenter of its national weekend news bulletin, ending months of industry speculation.

A New Era for Weekend News

The 34-year-old broadcaster, best known for her work on The Project, will take over from veteran newsreader Chris Bath in 2026. Bath announced her departure from the network in October after a decade in the role. In an official statement, Channel Ten praised Tunny's diverse experience across The Project, ABC, Flash, Fox Sports, and national radio, highlighting the "intelligence, authenticity and heart" she brings to major stories.

The network stated that from 2026, Tunny will apply her "depth, curiosity and editorial expertise" to the 10 News weekend broadcasts, leading the bulletin as it delivers trusted news nationwide. Alongside her new anchoring duties, Tunny will continue her reporting role for the network's current affairs programme, 10News+.

"Not a Typical Newsreader"

Martin White, Paramount Australia's vice president of news, said the network was "lucky" to have a talent like Tunny. "Georgie is a great journo and presenter, and we’re lucky to have her at 10 News," White remarked. He expressed confidence she would break down the big stories each weekend with her "trademark warmth and down-to-earth demeanour."

Speaking to the Daily Telegraph, Tunny acknowledged she would bring a distinct personal flair to the position. "I think that this will be news done slightly differently," she said. "I’m not exactly a typical newsreader, I would say. I do everything with a lot of heart. So, I feel like there is an opportunity for there to be not too much personality, but maybe slightly more personality."

She described the appointment as a definitive "pinch-me" moment, noting that hosting a national news bulletin was "the most far off thing" she could have imagined while growing up.

Transition and Industry Reaction

The announcement follows Chris Bath's revelation last October that she was leaving Channel Ten. At the time, insiders suggested Bath had become too expensive for the network, fuelling rumours that Tunny was the likely successor. A Ten spokesperson thanked Bath for her "passion, dedication and contribution" over seven years presenting the weekend bulletin, stating she would always be a valued member of the 10 family.

Bath also surprised ABC executives in November by announcing her decision to step down from the high-profile Drive radio programme after less than a year, though she plans to front a new Sunday morning show next year.

Tunny broke the news to her followers on Instagram with a playful post, writing: "Bit of news (see what I’ve done there?). Excited to announce I’ll be Network Ten’s National Weekend Bulletin Host." The announcement was met with congratulations from peers, including Abbie Chatfield and Bachelorette star Lee Elliott, who called the move "incredibly deserved."
