Eamonn Holmes, the 62-year-old former Sky News and GMTV presenter, is set to host his own programme on GB News in the New Year, the channel announced. Holmes will leave ITV's This Morning, where he and his wife Ruth Langsford have been holiday cover presenters.
Holmes expressed enthusiasm for the move, stating: "I've spent my career on broadcasting firsts and start-ups, and GB News is one of the most exciting yet. It's just the kind of shake-up the industry needs." He praised the channel for its "clever mix of punchy debate but delivered with warmth and even some fun."
Holmes joins a line-up including Nigel Farage, Simon McCoy, Alastair Stewart, and Dan Wootton. GB News launched in June, aiming to "give a voice to the real Britain." However, the channel has faced challenges, including the departure of founding chairman Andrew Neil after three months, who said the broadcaster was moving in a direction he had not envisaged.
Holmes previously caused controversy on This Morning in 2020 when he cast doubt on the debunked myth that 5G causes coronavirus. Ofcom deemed his remarks "ambiguous" and "ill-judged," warning they risked undermining trust in public health advice.
