Disney+ has cancelled 'Goosebumps' after two seasons, Variety has learned exclusively. The horror anthology, based on R.L. Stine's book series, debuted in October 2023 with a 10-episode first season, followed by an eight-episode second season in January 2025.
According to a source, producer Sony Pictures Television plans to shop the series to other outlets and explore new creative directions for the franchise. The two seasons combined garnered 75 million hours viewed in the US and 43 million hours across 16 international markets.
Each season drew from multiple Stine books. Season 1 followed five high schoolers investigating the death of a teen named Harold Biddle. Season 2 centred on fraternal twins moving in with their botanist father and uncovering strange occurrences.
The cast included Justin Long and Rachael Harris in Season 1, and David Schwimmer and Ana Ortiz in Season 2. Nicholas Stoller and Rob Letterman developed the series, with Hilary Winston as showrunner. Sony Pictures Television Studios produced for Disney Branded Television.
'Goosebumps' remains one of the best-selling book series ever, with over 400 million English copies in print and editions in 32 languages. Previous adaptations include a 1990s TV series and two films in 2015 and 2018.
