Kevin Costner's Horizon Flops as Waterworld Makes Streaming Comeback

Kevin Costner's latest Western, Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1, has confirmed its US streaming release date on Max for August 23, following a disappointing box office performance. The film, which Costner partially financed himself, earned only $24 million against a reported budget of $50-100 million.

The movie, set during the American Civil War, received a 49% score on Rotten Tomatoes and was criticised as a 'three-hour prologue' that was 'dull, frustrating and sleep-inducing'. Despite this, Costner told Entertainment Weekly he is 'happy' with the film, adding that 'if we put so much pressure on opening weekend, we're bound to be disappointed'.

The sequel, originally scheduled for release on August 16, has been delayed indefinitely. Meanwhile, Costner's 1995 film Waterworld, another costly flop that later gained cult status, is experiencing a streaming resurgence.
