Cillian Murphy's New Film 'Steve' to Stream on Netflix from October 3

Cillian Murphy's latest film, Steve, is currently showing in cinemas and will be available on Netflix from October 3. The film, which features the Peaky Blinders star in the lead role, follows a head teacher at a reform school in the mid-1990s.

Set over a single day, Steve is a reimagining of Max Porter's bestselling novel Shy. Murphy plays Steve, a head teacher fighting to protect his school from closure while grappling with his own mental health. The story also follows Shy (Jay Lycurgo), a troubled teen caught between his past and future.

The film has received mixed reviews, with a 77% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics have praised Murphy's performance, with one stating: 'There’s a manic energy to every shaky-cam scene that, by the end, seems to be hiding something. Murphy, however, is mesmerising.' Another critic claimed the film 'would not work at all with a lesser actor than Cillian Murphy at its centre.'

However, some reviewers found the execution clunky. One wrote: 'It either needs to stick to its title and focus on Steve or the youth; the film tries to do both, ending up cutting everyone short.'

Netflix subscribers can stream Steve from 8am on October 3. For those who cannot wait, the film is currently in cinemas.
