Fans of Call the Midwife were left gobsmacked after the BBC period drama shared an update on filming for the upcoming series. The beloved show has confirmed its return with a double dose of festive episodes, set to air on Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Series 15 is slated to follow in 2026, with all of the Turner children reprising their roles.
On Thursday (November 20), the BBC drama posted a behind-the-scenes snap on Instagram as the young stars took a breather from filming. In the photo, May (April Rae Hoang), Angela (Alice Brown), and Teddy Turner (Ned Shaw) have noticeably grown since we last saw them in series 14 earlier this year. Teddy is seen sporting longer hair as he pulls a cheeky face and gives the camera a thumbs-up. Angela and May sit next to their on-screen brother, balancing a colouring book on their laps.
Call the Midwife captioned the image: "Turner kids all ready to shoot their final scenes on Series 15. Next stop...CHRISTMAS! Call the Midwife will return with a new Christmas Special and Series 15 in 2026 xx." Viewers of the BBC show, created by Heidi Thomas, were left stunned at how grown-up the Turner children are, with one person saying: "Growing up fast and doing great work in CTM". Another added: "It's been such a joy watching these 3 grow up on screen."
Dr Patrick Turner, played by Stephen McGann, is the father of Timothy (Max Macmillan), who first graced our screens in the 2012 Christmas Special. Dr Turner then tied the knot with ex-nun Shelagh (Laura Main), and they went on to adopt Angela Julienne in the third series. The family expanded further when they welcomed their biological son, Edward (Teddy), in series six, before fostering and later adopting their fourth child, May, in series eight.
Filming has wrapped up for the 2025 Christmas special, which will take viewers from Hong Kong to Poplar, following the success of last year's two-part festive special. The upcoming season of Call the Midwife, consisting of eight episodes, is slated to premiere in January 2026, although a specific date is yet to be announced. In addition, Call the Midwife has revealed plans for a new film set in 1972, along with a prequel series that will transport viewers back to Poplar, East London, during the tumultuous times of World War II.
