Alex Jones, the new Welsh presenter of The One Show, has admitted she will be nervous on her first appearance on the flagship BBC programme. The 32-year-old will make her debut alongside comedian Jason Manford on BBC One on Monday at 1900 BST.
Speaking ahead of the show, Jones said: 'When the titles kick in, probably our hearts are going to be in our throats.' The presenter, from Ammanford, Carmarthenshire, described the BBC as 'really brave' for giving a regional presenter a chance on a national programme.
Jones and Manford will interview US actress Whoopi Goldberg on Monday night, with other guests this week expected to include Pamela Anderson and Tommy Steele. Jones, who has worked mainly on Welsh children's television for the past decade, was talent-spotted via her showreel on YouTube.
She said she was not sure if she was ready for everything that comes with presenting a top TV programme, but would take it 'day by day, show by show and week by week'. Jones is still commuting by train to her home in Cardiff and has not yet found a place to live in London.
Writing on the BBC TV blog, Jones said it was 'strange' after working in Welsh for the last decade, but added that there might be 'the odd word chucked in' Welsh on the show. Manford, from Salford, said he was not too worried about their debut, stating: 'I think it's going to be all right.'
