BBC Breakfast presenters Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt have reportedly fallen out, while programme editor Richard Frediani faces allegations of “aggressive” behaviour, according to an insider. The source told The Sun that behind the scenes, the show is far from the warm image it presents on screen, with claims of a bullying investigation underway.
The insider alleged that tension between Munchetty and Stayt is “rife”, and that Frediani, who also edits BBC News at One, has “tyrannical tendencies” and uses “aggressive” methods. Formal complaints have been lodged, forcing the BBC to act, the source added.
Frediani, who recently won a BAFTA and a promotion, has been accused of letting the accolades “go to his head”. However, another insider defended him as a “perfectionist” who is “well liked”, adding that he expects to be vindicated.
The allegations follow reports of two misconduct claims against Frediani, including one that he shook a female colleague. The BBC declined to comment, saying it does not discuss individual HR issues. Munchetty has previously described her relationship with Stayt as “good friends”.
