BBC Breakfast hosts moved as they pay tribute to late colleague Dianne Oxberry

BBC Breakfast presenters Nina Warhurst and Jon Kay were visibly emotional as they honoured their former colleague, weather presenter Dianne Oxberry, who died from ovarian cancer in January 2019. The pair presented a segment about a memorial garden created in her memory.

The Sunshine Garden, originally designed for the Tatton Garden Show, has now been relocated to a hospice on the Wirral, where it provides comfort to patients and their families. Dianne's husband, Iain Hindle, appeared on the programme to praise the tribute, saying: 'The Tatton Flower show is really special isn't it.' He added that his late wife would have been 'so moved' by the gesture.

Back in the studio, Warhurst and Kay were clearly touched. Warhurst said: 'We all worked with Dianne, despite being on the telly and doing the weather she was very humble... she would have been slightly embarrassed about the attention.' Kay nodded in agreement as Warhurst added: 'Dianne is very much still remembered by all, I still get people stop me in the street about her.'

Oxberry died just ten days after being diagnosed with ovarian cancer, at the age of 51. Her symptoms were minimal, described only as 'a bit of tummy pain'. Statistics from Ovarian Cancer Action show that only three out of ten women diagnosed with the disease survive more than ten years, highlighting the importance of early detection.

In her memory, loved ones have established a charity to raise awareness of ovarian cancer. BBC Breakfast airs on BBC One from 6am and is available on iPlayer.
