Banished Celebrity Traitors player Hannah Fry has discovered she has a family connection to fellow star Joanne McNally. The 42-year-old maths professor was unanimously banished from Ardross Castle after receiving the most votes at the roundtable, following suspicions raised by her traitorous behaviour and inconsistent stories. Her exit saw the Faithfuls celebrate after ousting another Traitor, following Richard E Grant's earlier demise.
Cousins by marriage revelation
After her exit, Hannah was asked who she was closest to in the cast and praised comedian Joanne McNally, 43. 'I really like Joanne. We actually discovered that we're cousins by marriage,' Hannah said. 'So her cousin is married to my cousin.'
'We're basically sisters. I really loved her so much. She described herself as how she came out of the womb as a show pony,' she added to the BBC. 'That's the perfect description of that woman.'
Hannah called Joanne 'phenomenal', lauding how she 'knows exactly who she is, and she is totally unapologetic about it'. 'I cannot tell you how much I admire her.'
History of personal connections on the show
The Traitors is no stranger to personal connections; season one saw Tom and Alex revealed as a couple, while season two revealed Diane was Ross's mum. In season three, Armani and Maia were open about being sisters, but season four saw Judy and Roxy hide that they were mother and daughter, and Ross and Ellie hid their romance.
Elsewhere, Hannah backed Maya Jama, the only original Traitor left standing alongside recruited James Acaster, for the win. 'I really want Maya to win. I think Maya is playing the most amazing game,' she said. 'When someone looks like that, I think that you expect her to have a bit of a chip on her shoulder in some way or another, because, good God, she's one of the most beautiful women alive, but she's also just so much fun.'
'No airs and graces, totally delightful to be around. I really want her to win,' she declared, also questioning whether Leigh-Anne Pinnock is 'actually psychic', because she's 'the most perceptive person' Hannah has 'ever come across'.
Hannah's turbulent run in the game
Hannah had a tough run in The Celebrity Traitors, with the heat on her from early days when she and Jerry Hall survived a murder. As the only two eligible to be killed that night after quitting the mission, both walked in unscathed the next morning, leaving others to question whether one had been recruited.
Hannah was invited to join the Traitors in the turret and accepted Maya and James's invitation after they believed her intelligence would serve them well. Her run as a Traitor was short, as she never quite convinced her fellow players she wasn't part of the cloaked trio, leaving Maya and James with no choice but to turn on her.
While she managed to see out the banishments of Faithfuls Myha'la and Julie Hesmondhalgh, plus the face-to-face murder of Rob Beckett, Hannah's cards were marked. In the aftermath of her departure, the surviving Traitors recruited again, ignoring Joe Lycett's pleas and bringing in media personality King Kenny, whose reaction to discovering their identities quickly went viral.
Whether it was a smart move remains to be seen, although viewers reckon Joe could have unintentionally put himself at risk with his vocal cries about wanting to be recruited, saying he's playing a 'dangerous game'. Joanne also made a slip-up, implying she was present when the face-to-face murders took place, even though she, as a Faithful, wasn't. Fellow players are also questioning her voting record, since she defended Richard by not banning him.
The castle is undecided on Ross Kemp and James Blunt, with the latter having led the charge to vote out Faithful star Julie. The Celebrity Traitors continues on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
