Scheduled sex turned my relationship into a chore – I ended it

Metro's sex columnist Sydney Summers has revealed how scheduling sex with her boyfriend turned into a chore she hated, ultimately leading to the end of their relationship.

Summers, who began dating Adam after meeting on Tinder in 2021, said the couple initially had a passionate connection. They moved in together a month after dating, a decision she now recognises was influenced by the lack of human intimacy during lockdown.

The suggestion to schedule sex

After their sex life dwindled, Summers suggested scheduling sex as a way to reconnect. Adam, who was organised and particular about the home, took to the idea quickly, pulling out his diary to pick the 'best nights'.

At first, the arrangement worked. They had sex on days when both were home and free, and it felt intimate. But within three weeks, the intimacy disappeared. Adam began coming to bed without speaking, having sex, and going to sleep. Summers said he stopped bothering about her orgasm, and the act became a task to complete.

The breaking point

The final straw came when Adam texted her with a suggestion for 7pm that night. Summers replied 'No' and then ended the relationship, telling him to come home and collect his things. His response was 'fine'.

Summers reflected that they had rushed into the relationship because of the circumstances of the time, but when the intensity faded, they realised they did not like each other. She has since returned to Tinder, inviting someone over for spontaneous sex, with the understanding that he would leave right after.
