Mark Zuckerberg faced brutal mockery on social media after footage showed his reaction to a pint of Guinness on John Collison's Cheeky Pint podcast. The 42-year-old Meta founder appeared alongside his Chief of AI, Alexander Wang, to discuss the company's latest frontier model, Muse Wonder.
The trio raised a toast with pints of the Irish stout at the start of the episode, but Zuckerberg appeared immediately disappointed by his choice of drink. Footage shared to Reddit with the caption "Mark Zuckerberg pretending to enjoy Guinness" shows him taking a gulp before his expression revealed everything.
Social media reaction to the footage
Sitting beside Wang, Zuckerberg seemed unable to swallow momentarily as he glanced sideways and swirled the liquid around his mouth before finally forcing it down. An awkward silence ensued as he slid his glass away, practically beyond arm's length.
One Reddit user joked: "Never seen someone try and chew a Guinness." Another observed: "Zuckerberg trying to enjoy Guinness and failing is one of the funniest things to me."
A third confessed: "I'm not a fan of Guinness, but I can drink it without looking like a 10-year old with his first beer." A fourth quipped: "Yeah. Knew I couldn't trust him. Any man who reacts to Guinness like that is suspect."
A fifth Reddit user pointed out: "You can almost see his circuit boards glitching and smoking in real time as they're dowsed in a carbon based liquid. The folks at Meta must've forgotten to update those drivers."
Zuckerberg's Irish property purchase
Zuckerberg might soon develop a fondness for Guinness, though, as he will spend considerably more time in Ireland with his wife, Priscilla Chan, after his acquisition of Strancally Castle. The Gothic three-storey property commands views over the River Blackwater and sits close to both Tallow in Waterford and Youghal in Cork.
Initially built around 1827, the manor house sits on a 440-acre estate and covers 1,486 square metres. It has been completely renovated during the past 20 years.
Zuckerberg purchased the estate for an undisclosed sum from the proprietors, Michael and Giancarla Alen Buckley, earlier this summer, though it was originally thought he paid somewhere between €20 million (£16.89m) and €30 million (£25.3m).
