Prometheus Soars on Netflix Charts as Fans Hail Sci-Fi Prequel

Ridley Scott's 2012 sci-fi film Prometheus has shot to number two on Netflix's UK top 10 films within hours of its release on the platform. The prequel to the iconic Alien franchise follows scientists who discover clues that humanity may have been created by an ancient alien race, leading them to a remote world where they uncover a terrifying threat.

Starring Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Guy Pearce, Idris Elba, Logan Marshall-Green, and Charlize Theron, the film has been praised by fans as a "masterpiece" and "massively underrated in the Alienverse". One reviewer on Rotten Tomatoes called it "gripping, thought provoking, visually stunning and entertaining from start to finish".

However, not all reactions have been positive. Some critics have noted that while the film "looks phenomenal", its "strong visuals cannot hide weak writing", with one viewer describing the dialogue as "stiff and unnatural". Another felt the film tried to do too much, saying Scott "should've either made a film about our creators or an Alien prequel; instead the two elements get too muddled together".

Despite mixed reviews, many fans believe Prometheus matches the high benchmark set by earlier entries in the franchise. One commented: "This was a perfectly cast movie. It gave excellent insight into the origins of the Alien lore." Another described it as an "incredible and impactful film that deserves to be seen multiple times".

The film carries a 15 certificate for strong violence, gore, threat, and horror. It is also available to stream on Disney+ and to rent or purchase on platforms including Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, and Sky Store.
