A new documentary exploring the rise of weight-loss drugs has become one of Netflix's most-watched films in the UK, despite receiving mixed reviews from viewers. 'The Ozempic Effect', which landed on the platform on 27 February, currently sits at number four on the streaming service's most-watched films chart.
The 51-minute film, produced by award-winning filmmaker Paul Kemp, examines the growing use of GLP-1 medications for weight management and their impact on body image and related industries. It features interviews with healthcare professionals and personal accounts from individuals using the drugs.
However, some viewers have criticised the documentary for lacking balance. On Reddit, one user described it as 'promotion rather than an unbiased view', while an IMDb reviewer called it 'more like a long sales pitch'. Another viewer labelled it a 'rubbish documentary and more like an advertisement'.
Despite the criticism, others found it a 'pretty interesting watch'. Kemp, who previously made the sports documentary 'Nike's Big Feet', admitted he initially held negative views about GLP-1 drugs but developed more sympathy for those struggling with weight issues during production.
'The Ozempic Effect' is now streaming on Netflix UK.
