Netflix has sparked significant disappointment among its subscribers after revealing a 2026 content slate that notably excludes several of its most popular returning series. The announcement, made on January 7, has left fans of shows like Wednesday and Ginny & Georgia questioning when – or if – new seasons will arrive.
Major Titles Missing From The Lineup
The absence of a confirmed return for Wednesday is a particular blow for many. The hit series, starring Jenna Ortega, released its second season in August 2025, and viewers were eagerly anticipating news of a third. Similarly, the comedy-drama Ginny & Georgia, which stars Brianne Howey and Antonia Gentry, aired its third season in June 2025. Despite being renewed for both a third and fourth season back in 2023, there was no mention of the fourth instalment in the new slate.
Newer titles were also overlooked. Ransom Canyon, which premiered its first season in April 2025, did not feature alongside other recent successes like Untamed and Forever. Netflix has stated that its published slate is not a comprehensive list of all titles launching in 2026 and that select announcements will follow later. However, this clarification has done little to assuage frustrated viewers.
Social Media Backlash From Disheartened Subscribers
Fans quickly took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to voice their frustration and disappointment. Many criticised the lengthy gaps between seasons, which have become a common point of contention for streaming audiences.
One user complained: 'So sick of the insane wait time for new seasons.' Another added sceptically: 'Netflix is sticking with the two-year gap between seasons... Let's see how this works out for them.'
Commenting on the delay for Ginny & Georgia, a third fan quipped: 'Ginny & Georgia only in 2027 then? At this rate, Austin will be 30 years old when the series ends,' referencing the young age of a character in the show. Others questioned the production timeline, with one asking: 'Not sure what about Ginny & Georgia takes so long to shoot and release.'
The sentiment even extended to threats of cancelling subscriptions. One disgruntled viewer wrote in response to the slate announcement: 'I really should cancel my Netflix.'
Confirmed Returning Favourites for 2026
Despite the notable omissions, Netflix did confirm the return of several other major franchises. Leading the charge is Bridgerton season four, which will shift focus to Benedict Bridgerton, played by Luke Thompson. Part one launches on January 29, with part two following on February 26.
Fans of heartfelt drama can mark their calendars for Virgin River season seven, arriving on March 12, which continues Mel Monroe's story in the remote town. The critically acclaimed series Beef will return for its hotly anticipated second season on April 16.
Further into the year, Sweet Magnolias season five is set for June 11. While a specific date is yet to be announced, the live-action adaptation Avatar: The Last Airbender season two is also confirmed for a 2026 release.
On the film front, Enola Holmes 3 is slated for a summer release, promising another adventurous case for the detective, this time set in Malta.
