Netflix has acquired the classic medical drama ER, which originally aired from 1994 to 2009. The series, consisting of 331 episodes across 15 seasons, will be available in its entirety on the streaming platform from Sunday, February 8.
ER is widely regarded as one of the best medical dramas of all time. It follows the staff of the emergency room at Cook County General Hospital in Chicago, a fictionalised version of the real Cook County Hospital. The show launched George Clooney to stardom and featured a rotating cast including Noah Wyle, Anthony Edwards, and Julianna Margulies.
Fans have praised the series for its realistic portrayal of medical emergencies and character development. One viewer commented on IMDb: 'This show is without a doubt the best one on television. The detail put into County General is amazing.' Another noted that the show inspired them to become a nurse.
The acquisition comes as viewers await the UK release of HBO's The Pitt, a new medical drama starring Noah Wyle. The Pitt has received critical acclaim with a 98% Rotten Tomatoes score, but is not yet available in the UK. ER offers a chance for fans to revisit Wyle's earlier work in the genre.
