The 1% Club Contestant Bags £97,000 Jackpot with Ingenious Clock Puzzle
A contestant on ITV's popular game show The 1% Club has walked away with a staggering £97,000 jackpot after successfully solving a challenging final question that revolved around interpreting clock times. The show, hosted by comedian Lee Mack, tests players' logic and common sense rather than traditional general knowledge, and this latest episode proved to be a thrilling showcase of mental agility.
The Tense Final Showdown
During the episode that aired on Saturday, March 7, the competition narrowed down to two finalists: Zoe and Ryan. They faced off for the accumulated prize fund of £97,000 in a high-stakes finale. The decisive question presented to them was: 'What word is represented by the times on the clocks below?' Below this prompt, five different types of clocks were displayed, each showing a distinct time.
When host Lee Mack asked for their answers, it emerged that Ryan had not written anything down, while Zoe confidently submitted 'Label' as her response. The tension in the studio was palpable as Lee revealed that Zoe's answer was indeed correct, securing her the entire £97,000 jackpot. Reflecting on the moment, Lee shared that he witnessed the exact instant Zoe realised she had cracked the puzzle. 'I think after I put it, I was like, "I think that's right"', Zoe remarked afterwards, clearly amazed by her victory.
Other Baffling Questions from the Show
This episode was not the only one to feature mind-bending puzzles. In a previous instalment, a third of the contestants were eliminated by a particularly tricky bird-related question. The 50% question asked: 'If TRUE is 1234 and LOVE is 7654, what bird is 5371324?' After 30 seconds, two players were booted for incorrect answers, while twenty others used their pass to avoid elimination. Lee explained the solution: 'It's VULTURE. If you replace the numbers with the appropriate letters in the question, you get VULTURE.'
Another perplexing query involved a seating arrangement puzzle. It stated: 'Three couples are out on a date. No one is sitting next to or directly opposite their date. Arran tells Nick's date that he likes her shoes. Who is David's date?' This conundrum forced thirteen players to use their pass, and four who attempted an answer were wrong. Lee clarified the logic: 'Given that no one can sit next to or opposite their date and we know from the question that Arran can't be Nick's date, Nick and Charlotte must be a couple. Therefore, Hayley must be Arran's date and Janice must be David's date.' The answer was Janice, leaving even Lee admitting his bafflement: 'It's great when you read them out and you still don’t understand the answer.'
The Show's Format and Appeal
The 1% Club continues to captivate audiences with its unique focus on logical reasoning over memorised facts. Aired on Saturdays on ITV1 and ITVX, the show challenges contestants with a series of increasingly difficult puzzles, often leading to dramatic eliminations and substantial cash prizes. Zoe's win highlights the intense pressure and intellectual thrill that define the programme, proving that quick thinking and sharp logic can lead to life-changing rewards.
