The comedy series 'Amandaland', a spin-off of the popular BBC show 'Motherland', has arrived on Netflix UK and is already trending in the platform's top 10. Starring Lucy Punch as the recently divorced Amanda, the show is currently the eighth most-watched programme on Netflix.
The series follows Amanda as she downsizes from Chiswick to South Harlesden with her two teenage children, Georgie and Manus, while dealing with her overbearing mother Felicity, played by Joanna Lumley. The cast also includes Phillippa Dunne reprising her role as Amanda's friend Anne, alongside Samuel Anderson, Siobhán McSweeney, Rochenda Sandall and Peter Serafinowicz.
'Amandaland' debuted its six-episode first season in 2025, followed by a Christmas special in December. A second series has been commissioned by the BBC, though a release date has not yet been announced. Lucy Punch expressed her excitement about the second series, saying, 'I'm beyond excited to get started on Amandaland series two with our brilliantly talented lovely cast.'
The series holds an 85% score on Rotten Tomatoes from 13 reviews. Critics have praised Punch's performance, with the Financial Times calling it 'outstanding' and The Times noting that 'Punch carries most of the heavy lifting with ease'. The Evening Standard added that she 'makes the turn from enjoyable side character to magnetic main character with unexpected, brilliant ease.'
