The Prince and Princess of Wales made a surprise appearance at the Baftas this evening, marking their return after skipping the last two ceremonies while Kate recovered from cancer. Arriving at London's Royal Festival Hall, Kate wore a blush pink Gucci gown first seen in 2019, while William opted for a maroon tuxedo.
However, body language expert Judi James noted signs of 'suppressed or masked tension' in the couple's demeanour. Speaking to the Mirror, she observed that William's right hand showed 'tension and fiddling of the fingers', and his head was 'slightly ducked' as he walked the red carpet, suggesting modesty.
James also detected 'slight edge-to-edge clenching of the teeth' in their smiles, hinting at 'an air of resolve rather than a completely relaxed approach'. The appearance comes after a tough week for the monarchy, following the arrest of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor earlier this week.
Despite the tension, James described the couple's appearance as 'stunning', saying they 'upstaged the Hollywood celebrities with their own display of dazzling glamour and elegance'. Kate accessorised with Queen Elizabeth's Greville Diamond Chandelier Earrings and a diamond bracelet.
The couple last attended the Baftas together in 2023. William has been President of Bafta since 2010 and makes regular appearances at the awards night.
