Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's decision to return to the UK this autumn was made roughly a year ago, according to sources close to the couple. An insider revealed the decision was "taken as a family," with Meghan particularly focused on what Britain could offer their children, Archie and Lilibet.
Family decision and Harry's homesickness
A Montecito source told People: "Meghan feels very fortunate that they're able to give Archie and Lilibet the opportunity to experience both worlds." Harry's homesickness reportedly proved decisive as well. The same source said: "Harry never really stopped missing home. He's missed that sense of connection and belonging. Britain is still home in many ways."
Plans remain deliberately flexible, with another insider stressing "It's not necessarily a forever thing," while the family retains their California base.
Timing and school plans
The family is due back in late August so the children can start school in September. Although King Charles was only told of the move recently, several sources told People that the decision had been "in the works for about a year."
