Stacey Dooley has hinted that her and Kevin Clifton's move to the Liverpool area might not be forever, saying "you never know what's going to happen". Stacey, who previously lived in Lewisham, South East London, moved to Merseyside with ex-Strictly pro Kevin and their daughter, Minnie, in 2023 - and it seems she couldn't be happier with the decision.
Family roots and a quick decision
Stacey's family originally hails from Speke, and the move has brought the family closer to her mum, Di. Speaking in a recent interview, the documentary-maker gushed that she's "so happy" in her new home and feels "very calm".
She did admit, though, that it wasn't the most "sensible, thought-through plan". And while Kevin was apparently "chill" with the decision, some of her friends back in London were somewhat sceptical.
Friends' reactions and career concerns
Stacey told the Home Again Podcast: "It's not like it was a very sort of sensible, thought-through plan. It was more like, 'I want this house. Let's do it'. And Kev's such a good sport cos everyone's like, 'You're moving from London to Liverpool?'
"I was like, 'Yeah'. They were like, 'How long have you thought about this?' I was like, '(I) decided last week'. They were like, 'And Kev's chill with that?' I was like, 'You know, Kev's pretty relaxed.'"
"Like, if I say, 'Oh we're going to'...If I said to Kev tomorrow, 'We're moving to the Isle of Skye', I think he would actually just move to the Isle of Skye."
Her friends also probed the TV presenter about how the move would work with her career, while Stacey highlighted what she described as an "element of snobbery". Stacey, known for shows such as Stacey Dooley Investigates, Ready for War?, Inside the Undertakers, and Meet the Shoplifters, says her mortgage "guy" wanted to know how she'd pay for it.
No regrets about leaving London
Stacey pointed out that she was set to move to Liverpool, not "Mars". She added: "I do think sometimes as well, it's like a sudden thing. There's like an element of snobbery. It's like, 'Oh, you're leaving London.'"
"Like, you're never going to work again', or you know, 'All the opportunities are down here'. I don't really think that's so true anymore, especially being so close to Manchester. You know what I mean?"
While recording the podcast in London, Stacey went on to say: "I can't imagine being back down here now. Isn't that funny? Like, you never know what's going to happen."
"And I'm actually quite sort of loose with plans, sort of long-term plans, but I can't imagine not living there at the moment, for the time being."
