Meghan Markle has shared a cryptic social media post about chickens as she and Prince Harry prepare to move back to the UK. Last week it was announced the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, along with their two children, will move from their home in California back to the UK.
Cotswolds speculation and the family flock
Although it is not known exactly where they will make their new home, there is widespread speculation that a location in the Cotswolds is on the cards. Meghan has now shared a mysterious Instagram post about chickens amid reports the family's flock of birds will stay in America.
The family's chickens, which live in a coop named Archie's Chick Inn, have appeared in the Duchess's Netflix programme With Love, Meghan. According to the Telegraph, the birds will remain in the USA.
In a post on Instagram Meghan shared an image with the message: "People who take care of chickens are literally chicken tenders." Meghan and Harry are reportedly keeping their USA home, and house staff will take care of the birds while they are away.
Rescued birds and family plans
According to the Mirror, Harry and Meghan rescued the 10 chickens from a commercial factory farm. The flock includes silkies Phil and Jill, known for their unusual plumage.
They will, however, bring their dogs Mia and Pula with them when they make the move, reportedly taking place this week. Harry and Meghan's children Archie, seven, and Lilibet, five, have also reportedly been enrolled in UK schools.
King Charles was reportedly only told about his son and his family's plans days before the announcement last week.
Duration of stay and Netflix role
Some have said their decision to keep their American home is a sign they do not plan to make their UK move permanent. A source close to Harry and Meghan said: "It'll be an extended period of time.
"It could be six months, it could be a year, it could be more. I don't think even they know yet. They might suddenly go, 'Why don't we try Canada for a while?' They love Canada. 'Why don't we try Australia?' It's one of the great things about having left the institution."
When the move was announced last week it was also said Meghan was in talks to take a role in the third series of Netflix show The Gentleman. The show is about a British Duke who unexpectedly inherits his father's country estate and discovers it is home to a cannabis empire run by notorious criminals.
Meghan was best known as Rachel Zane on US legal drama Suits when she met the Duke of Sussex, but stepped back from acting once their relationship was established. Although it was later reported talks around Meghan joining the Guy Ritchie crime caper, which is filmed in the UK, had been scrapped following "public backlash", entertainment sources have said plans remain in place.
The second series of The Gentleman, based on a 2019 film of the same name, premieres on Netflix on September 3, and the streaming giant has announced it has been renewed for a third.
Speaking as the third series was announced, Ritchie said: "The ambition of The Gentlemen has accelerated, the world has expanded, and the consequences carry weight. A third season felt inevitable, and I'm looking forward to pushing the boundaries of it further."
